NoPOS

A restaurant POS that keeps working offline.

When the line drops, a NoPOS store carries on: every till and kitchen screen holds the whole day's orders, and they talk to each other over the store network.

What works without internet, and what doesn't.

Keeps working

Tills, kitchen screens, printers, tables and cash-ups all run on the store network.

Waits for the internet

Online orders can't reach the store until the link is back. Reporting and HQ changes also need the internet.

Catches up by itself

Sales saved on the tills sync to HQ once the link is back, with nothing to re-capture.

Your card terminal runs on its own connection, so check with your provider how it behaves in an outage. The store network and the devices on it need power.

Why there's no server to fail.

Many restaurant systems depend on a back-office server, or on a cloud service, to hold the day's orders. In NoPOS, every till and kitchen screen holds them, and the devices talk to each other directly. Lose any device and the rest carry on.

Order numbers are made on the till by the same rule, online or offline, so nothing switches when the line goes down. Each sale is written to disk before the screen confirms it. When the power comes back after load shedding, the till picks up where it left off and catches up from its neighbours.

For stores on LTE, one device with signal is enough to keep online orders flowing, and a SIM in an Android till can be the backup route. See the problems NoPOS was designed around, or how a pizza store and a franchise group use it.

Questions owners ask.

Do I need a server in the store?

No. Every till and kitchen screen carries the whole store, so there is no store server to buy or to fail.

What happens to a sale if the power goes mid-order?

Each sale is written to disk before the screen confirms it. When the power comes back, the till picks up where it left off and catches up from the other devices.

Do the tills need to be connected to each other?

Yes, over the store network. That is how they share orders with each other and with the kitchen screens.

What happens to online orders when the internet is down?

They can't reach the store until the link is back. Your in-store trading carries on as normal.

Will it run on our old tills?

Windows 10 and 11 tills work, including Windows 10 IoT with 2 GB of RAM, as do Android tablets and POS devices.

Pull the cable in your own store.

We'll set NoPOS up next to your current system, unplug the internet in the middle of service, and you can watch what happens.
